Crowning Glory

HAIRDRESSING, it turns out, isn't the poverty-stricken profession they've had us believe.
Or so not the case for my hairdresser, who has already dined at all three of Birmingham's newly-crowned Michelin star establishments.
My well-heeled stylist gave her verdict on this week's awards when I visited her last night for my monthly trim.
We agreed that Simpsons in Edgbaston was deserving. "Out of this world," she said, before saying she was not surprised by Glynn Purnell's new star for Purnell's in Cornwall Street.
I dine there next month so could only take her word for it.
"Glynn's after his second star now, isn't he?" Id' read that too, in the Birmingham Post.
However, she admitted she was shocked by the addition of Turner's in Harborne into the Michelin hall of fame.
"As a vegetarian, who eats fish, I found the menu quite limiting," she commented.
"I also don't think the food is as good as Edmunds (which was snubbed). And it is nowhere close to somewhere like Simpsons."
I had to agree the star for Turners did seem to come out of nowhere.
"And I thought the Michelin star system took into account interior, as well as food - the whole experience," she said, referring to the interior of Turners - which nods to a 1980s 'bistro'.
She added: "I love you to go so you you could tell me what you think."
I smiled. Clearly I need to change my career...
What do you think of this week's Michelin awards? Let me know.

some really old varieties and loads of recipe's.

Sounds like a great day out to me. :)

Oh fantastic. Now I know what I am looking for I will have a read.

If there was an Olympic gold medal for roast potatoes, I think I'd win it.

I've been to potato day at Ryton several times, it's good but always freezing!!

You know what Saralou? That was the only thing putting me off from going - the thought of freezing cold weather. I don't think even the lure of tasty spuds could get me outdoors in this weather!

It was cold, but it was a nice clear day. We really enjoyed it and will probably go again next year.
