Memories of Mexico (Sort of)

I WAS really exited to see the Masterchef Goes Large contestants posted for service at Wahaca in Covent Garden on last night's show.
I dined at this Mexican market food restaurant for the first time in December and would definitely cite it as a highlight of my year.
In fact, after eating at three-Michelin star Restaurant Gordon Ramsay a day later it was hard to decide which meal we'd enjoyed more (Sorry, Gordon).
The food at Wahaca, which is owned and run by former Masterchef Goes Large winner Tommi Meirs, was fresh and vibrant.
Served up in small sharable portions like Spanish tapas, we gorged on gorgeous shredded beef tostados, gooey black bean and cheese quesadillas and chicken taquitos.
And the tender pork pibil tacos were a revelation, as was the chunky guacamole and homemade corn chips. My mouth is watering at the mere thought of it (even though it's barely 9am).... I could eat it all again, right now.
This hungry tum even found room for pud, and we shared mango sorbet and churros (long, hot doughnuts) with dark chocolate sauce for dipping.
And what's more, the bill came to just a touch over £30 which, by the standards of any city restaurant, is cheap.
If you're ever in the capital, why not give it a try?... And what's more, they've just opened a second branch at White City.
Check out the website www.wahaca.co.uk

P.S: While we're on the subject of Mexican food, a friend said to me: "If tortilla chips come without salsa, cheese or guacamole, are they served au nacho-rel? Stick that on your blog."

I'm going to stop following this blog, I'm sitting here drooling on my desk and it's not a pretty sight. ;)

Terrible, isn't it? My tummy rumbles all day long. I've just been into the staff canteen for a nose. The smell of hot buttered toast and bacon butties is unbearable...

That's it. I'm off to Jennies Cafe for lunch, I'm thinking of a big fry up here :)

Oh! Don't say that. I have an anemic looking salad in the fridge!

I had a wonderful lunch. ;)

I survived mine... just kidding. It was delicious, although not quit as delicious as a fry up from Jennie's Cafe, I am sure!

Yes, Kang, you must! As I said it's not too harsh on the pocket either, which makes a change for London!
