Good Samaritans

YESTERDAY I was a damsel in distress.
I punctured one of my car tyres in the office car park and had to flutter my eyelashes sweetly enough for the two men on my desk to agree to changing it.
I admit, it's not a role I felt comfortable performing. I'm no Germaine Greer but I do get frustrated when I don't know how to do these things myself and I am uneasy about asking for help.
However, these two kind souls stepped in, offered their help and did a top job.
I was truly grateful and wanted to say thank you so, ironically, I headed into the kitchen and raided my ingredients store.
I cobbled together the ingredients for chocolate, fruit and nut cookies, inspired by a superb Bill Granger recipe for chocolate chunk and peanut butter cookies.
I brought the cookies to work this morning and they seemed to have been gobbled down and enjoyed, so here's the recipe.

Makes 18 (ish, but the cookie dough tastes so good, it may only make, say 14)

INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 155g plain flour
  • 150g dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 100g Cadburys Fruit and Nut, or similar, cut into decent sized pieces.
  • 1tsp baking powder
METHOD:
  1. Preheat the oven at 190 degrees and line two baking sheets with baking paper.
  2. Cream together the butter, sugar and peanut butter until pale and creamy.
  3. Add in the egg and vanilla essence
  4. Sift in the flour and baking powder and fold in to combine
  5. Fold in the chocolate
  6. Using an icecream scoop portion out balls of mixture
  7. Roll into balls and place on baking sheets
  8. Press down lightly with back of hand
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes
  10. Cool on a wire rack until firm
  11. Eat and enjoy!
What is your 'thank you recipe'? Has anyone made you anything to say thanks? Let me know....

Love that recipe. I don't have a thank you one as such, but the blokes on my desk are occasionally supplied with Nigella's banana muffins from Nigella Express. I started this because head office kindly decided it was going to send us boxes of fruit periodically, but there's only 3 of us and much of it went off, so I used up the mushy bananas in that recipe - not quite as healthy as head office wished, but pretty tasty.

What a wonderful idea. I have that book so I will give the recipe a go. There are some overripe bananas in the fruit bowl right now. I am envious of your fruit drop. We occasionally get a box delivered, but there's about 70 of us to share it between. I have to admit I am a bit of a hog though because it's luxury fruit, unblemished, as if from Marks and Spencer! Funny though, it's only the women who eat it. But cakes donuts and muffins are a different story...!

I am not adverse to a little fluttering of the eyelashes ;). A girls gotta do what works!

So sorry that happened to you! I have to admit that I would have to do the same. Don't feel bad about it! At least they were nice guys.
Cookies look sinful and delicious!!

Thanks for reading!I definitely felt a lot better once the cookies had been enjoyed. I made 18 and only took one home, which the boy happily polished off!

Hi, thanks so much for your lovely comments on my blog and congratulations on your weight loss. I have come to realise if I want to lose weight I have to exercise aswell, plus I'm so unfit and unflexible.

Ps I love the statement on your profile that you're permantley hungry. That's how I've felt today.
