Breakfast at Emily's

I'M so over birthday dinners. You can forget birthday lunches too.
For me, it's all about breakfast.
Why wait half the day to celebrate when you can do so as soon as the larks are in the trees?
To mark the mum-in-law's big day we hosted an informal family breakfast for seven.
Build-your-own doorstop bacon and sausage sarnies were the party staple, served with homemade tomato chutney or good old Heinz tomato ketchup.
Toast with chunky strawberry jam (also concocted in my kitchen) was also on offer and slices of cantaloupe melon and juicy pineapple proved perfect palate cleanser before hitting the birthday cakes.
Candles extinguished, we tucked into carrot cake with cream cheese topping and sticky gingerbread wedges, all washed down with coffee and juice.
What better way to start a new year?

Hi Emily,

Sounds marvellous, and you've been busy whilst I've been away.

Hi Jim
Good to hear from you. I am on a rare day off today. Hope you enjoyed your break.

it was work Emily, I've been touring some of our stores.

Stayed in some pretty poor hotels as well, even the chain ones vary greatly from Hotel to Hotel, especially in the south west I have found.

Sorry to hear your hotel experiences weren't up to much Jim. I rarely think expensive hotels are worth the money unless you have the time to use the wealth of facilities on offer. We always opt to stay in Premier Travel Inns. Glamorous, they are not, but the standard is pretty reasonable and the price is always good.
How were your eating experiences?

Pretty good Emily, mainly pub grub but not bad, not bad at all.

Thanks for your breakfast picture, made my tummy rumble - and I've just had tea!

Ah yes, I have that most Saturday's whilst the wife is in Tesco. She doesn't like me coming round with her 'cos I'm always picking things up and saying "We should try this"

:)

Same as my other half. He comes shopping and the bill goes up ten fold. Wine, olives, organic cheese... he comes shopping and we have enough food to feed the five thousand!
Great pic though, thanks!

LOL, must be a "Bloke" thing Emily.

I'm not complaining though. ;)

What a simply beautiful spread! I love the way you have your wine tucked away on your wall--how ingenious!

Thanks Linda! Glad you liked the spread. The wall-mounted wine rack is from Ikea and is most useful!
Thanks for reading
